Crossways were lucky enough to have been visited by an Astronomy Group in December 2013. Using the guest's garden and the paddock next to it they were treated to a breathtaking view of the Milky Way which is not only visible through astronomical equipment but also easily to the naked eye and here the astronomers were absolutely delighted with the ever increasing number of stars and distant planets that were so clear and abundant. When they left at the end of the week they had measured the Dark Sky here at Crossways as 21.3 mag. which is by all accounts far greater than they were used to with 20.0 being regarded as good and 21.5 as excellent but this was no surprise being as close as we are to one of the few international Dark Sky Reserves in the UK - Exmoor. So all in all they were pretty thrilled with their results, along with their wives and partners who are normally required to camp out while their partners star-gaze,so the comfort of our snug luxury cottages made their trip a lot more comfortable!
If you are interested in bringing your equipment with you and doing a spot of star-gazing please contact us for further details we will be more than happy to assist! There is also an electric point adjacent to the guest's paddock if you have sophisticated equipment requiring a power source.
