We welcome one well-behaved dog per cottage. It may be possible to accept two dogs for Dartmoor Cottage but please contact us first so that we can co-ordinate the doggy population here alongside our own canine family member: 'Linus'- an incredibly friendly Spaniel! We do ask that dogs do not go upstairs at all in our Dartmoor Cottage and that the dog covers provided are used on all sofas, if you enjoy canine cuddles while watching tv. We provide a stair-gate to help with this and also dog towels. We do also request that pets are not left alone in the holiday cottages as they can sometimes become distressed and could cause damage.
There is a large dog paddock where your pooch can run around in with a special bin for doggy bags. There is also a picnic bench in this paddock where you can sit and relax and take in the wonderful view while your four legged family member runs around to their hearts content. Both the garden and the paddock are fully fenced with wooden post and rail fencing with wire stock fencing along the bottom rail. Please note, despite this fencing we cannot guarantee that your dog won't escape so please take care of them while in the grounds, we are surrounded by sheep and lots of other temptations for dogs! We can recommend an excellent kennels nearby that runs a day creche for dogs if you are really stuck. We have used them ourselves and so are happy to recommend them.
There is a 3 mile circular walk along quiet country lanes which starts and ends at the gate to the Dartmoor Cottage guest car park. A map detailing the easy to follow route is to be found in your cottage information folder. It's best to keep your dog on a lead along this walk as you pass fields full of sheep and pheasants and there is a crossroads over a road where cars build up speed to get up a rather large hill!
For other dog walks we take Linus to the Tarka Trail starting at Puffin Billy or to one of the sandy beaches like Instow where dogs are allowed all year round or, either of the Moors, where there are countless miles of walks and trails.
